Hey everybody. It’s Christina Daves with your Get Famous Friday PR Tip. Today, I want to talk about soundbites.
You’ve heard of the elevator pitch, right? And you probably have that for your business. If you were on an elevator ride with somebody, how would you describe your business? Well, what’s really important if you’re looking to get media coverage and really specifically television is you need to have soundbites worked out.
Those are concise, specific sentences that convey your message. Most television segments are about three minutes, which goes by so fast, so you’ve got those three minutes to get that concise message across to the audience, and it’s really important that you practice it, that you know exactly what it is so that you can say it on command or you can fit it into a sentence because the key here is not just to get media exposure; the key is to share your message with the world, and it’s really important that that message is practiced, and again, a soundbite, it’s gotta be a nugget. It’s gotta be something short and concise for television.
But, you want your soundbites together, too, for newspaper interviews or magazine interviews. You want to be able to get your message across, like I said, very concisely, very strategically, and quotable in a way that the media can just scoop it up and just use that.
So, come up with some soundbites, 30 seconds, a minute, and practice them so you’ve got them down. When you get asked a particular question, you know you can get that answer in as your rehearsed soundbite. Again, very important to get your message out to the world.
